Green Fuzzies In The Fridge

“Just for fun, a good friend, Donna Cutler, challenged me to write a poem about Green Fuzzies in the Fridge, so I did. But I was ready to kill my husband, Graham, when it appeared in the local paper. He submitted it without my OK But later, Donna and I had a good laugh over it.”

I’m a very careful shopper – the frugal sort of kind
I always save the leftovers from peas to lemon rind,
The little bits of this and that but then behold I find
Green fuzzies in the fridge!

I have the best intentions to use every item up,
To make exotic casseroles for when we dine or sup.
But then I’m truly stymied and I know the game is up-
Green fuzzies in the fridge!

I plan to be quite organized with everything in line.
And for perhaps a day or two this system works out fine.
But then within the fridge I find that enemy of mine –
Green fuzzies in the fridge!

I keep a careful tab on things for when I must defrost,
A large build up of ice you know will elevate the cost!
But when I reach away in back I know that all is lost!
Green fuzzies in the fridge!

The only thing that comforts me – if comfort is it’s name,
Is that some other people makes excuses just as lame.
And even Donna Cutler finds the very, very same
Green fuzzies in the fridge!!
