Little Boy

“When our son Trevor was getting married I thought I would write something romantic about love and eternity. However these were the thoughts that came to mind – perhaps poets do bare their souls when they write. ”

Little boy, little boy where are you?
The impish grin, the twinkling eyes
The scratched up knees, with laughs and cries.
    Forever learning something new,
    Another daring thing to do.
Little boy, little boy where are you?
The years fly by, you’ve grown tall
It doesn’t seem that long at all
You’d run and climb up on my knee
With a sticky kiss and hug for me.
Little boy, little boy where are you?
I always prayed that you’d walk tall
Before the Lord – accept each call.
You’ve done just that in every way.
I’m very proud but still must say —
Little boy, little boy where are you?
Here stands a man so straight and true
Is this the child that I once knew?
And standing there close by his side
This lovely girl, his smiling bride.
Little boy, little boy where are you?
She’s found her man but he’s my boy
I’ll always have those years of joy
From his first breath I’ve watched him grow
And always dearly loved him so.
Little boy, little boy where are you?
I do not ask that time stand still,
It’s not the plan; it never will.
I thrill to see his dreams come true
But still I hold the past in view,
Little boy, little boy where are you?
